Relationships can influence many aspect of our lives

Our relationships are woven through everything we do — they shape how we see the world and where we’re headed.

The relationships we grow up with teach us, often without words, what closeness feels like and whether it’s safe to rely on someone. A parent who was consistent and warm tends to leave us more able to trust and self-soothe as adults. A childhood marked by conflict, unpredictability or emotional distance can leave patterns that show up decades later, in how we handle disagreement, ask for help, or read other people’s intentions.

These patterns aren’t fixed. Many adults find that understanding where a reaction comes from, such as shutting down during conflict or feeling responsible for everyone’s mood, is the first step to responding differently

At Oakwise Therapy, we work with adults, teens, couples and families to understand these patterns and build healthier ways of connecting.

Individual Counselling

Individual therapy offers a private, supportive space to understand what you’re going through and move toward healing and growth. Oakwise Therapy supports people with a broad range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, childhood trauma, family-of-origin issues, and relationship difficulties. Sessions can help you recognise the patterns of thinking and behaviour you learned earlier in life that no longer align with your values, and build healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. Each session is tailored to you, in a confidential space where you can open up at your own pace.

Couple Counselling

Oakwise Therapy’s couples counselling supports partners working through infidelity, communication breakdowns, intimacy concerns and ongoing conflict, as well as couples who simply want to strengthen their relationship. Drawing on evidence-based approaches, including the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Oakwise Therapy helps you and your partner understand each other, rebuild trust and reconnect, in a safe and confidential space.

When partners connect and work together as parents, the whole home often feels the difference. Positive change in your relationship can create a calmer, more secure environment where children feel safe, seen and supported, and where their core emotional needs are met.

Family Counselling

Oakwise Therapy’s family counselling supports families navigating parenting challenges, family conflict, blended family dynamics, and the impact of illness or disability. Family life can be both rewarding and demanding. Oakwise Therapy helps your family understand one another, communicate more openly and build resilience, in a safe and confidential space.

Oakwise Therapy acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands where we live and work. We honour their continuing connection to land, waters, culture, and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and recognise the strength and wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, whose traditions of healing and connection continue to guide and inspire our work.
